Immersed boundary finite element method for blood flow simulation

چکیده

We present an efficient and accurate immersed boundary (IB) finite element (FE) method for numerically solving the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. Particular emphasis is given to internal flows with complex geometries (blood flow in vasculature system). IB methods are computationally costly flows, mainly due large percentage of grid points that lie outside domain. In this study, we apply a local refinement strategy, along domain reduction approach, order reduce covers increase nodes fall inside The proposed utilizes FE solver incremental pressure correction scheme (IPCS), condition enforced solve transient, verify accuracy numerical using analytical solution Poiseuille cylinder. further examine applicability by considering within geometries, such as blood aneurysmal vessels aorta, configurations which would otherwise be extremely difficult most methods. Our offers high accuracy, demonstrated verification examples, efficiency, through geometry on off-the-shelf laptop computer.

Hybrid finite difference/finite element immersed boundary method

The immersed boundary method is an approach to fluid-structure interaction that uses a Lagrangian description of the structural deformations, stresses, and forces along with an Eulerian description of the momentum, viscosity, and incompressibility of the fluid-structure system. The original immersed boundary methods described immersed elastic structures using systems of flexible fibers, and eve...

The Finite Element Immersed Boundary Method with Distributed Lagrange Multiplier

In this talk we consider the finite element discretization of the Immersed Boundary Method (IBM) introduced by Peskin [6] for fluid-structure interaction problems. With respect to the original finite differences discretization the finite element approach can take advantage from the variational formulation in handling the Dirac delta function which takes into account the presence of the structur...

On the stability of the Finite Element Immersed Boundary Method

The immersed boundary (IB) method is a mathematical formulation for fluid-structure interaction problems, where immersed incompressible visco-elastic bodies or boundaries interact with an incompressible fluid. The original numerical scheme associated to the IB method requires a smoothed approximation of the Dirac delta distribution to link the moving Lagrangian domain with the fixed Eulerian on...

A finite element approach to the immersed boundary method

The immersed boundary method was introduced by Peskin in [31] to study the blood flow in the heart and further applied to many situations where a fluid interacts with an elastic structure. The basic idea is to consider the structure as a part of the fluid where additional forces are applied and additional mass is localized. The forces exerted by the structure on the fluid are taken into account...

Numerical Stability of the Finite Element Immersed Boundary Method

The immersed boundary method is both a mathematical formulation and a numerical method. In its continuous version it is a fully non-linearly coupled formulation for the study of fluid structure interactions. As it is common in these cases, many numerical methods have been introduced to reduce the difficulties related to the non-linear coupling between the structure and the fluid evolution, howe...
